Guilty is the former Queenstown Magistrate’s Court and you could be found Guilty of tranquil enjoyment. We must mention that this court has handed down severe penalties in its time.
For example in 1868 Alfred Pennefather was charged with assaulting a fish warden be striking the warden on the left cheek with a fish. His worship said he was perfectly satisfied that an unjustifiable assault had been committed and fined Pennefather five pounds.
We at Guilty Bar plead Guilty of protecting our fish and meat from such callous treatment.
In 1889 Mrs Alice Lodman stated that her husband had wilfully damaged her hat by standing on the straw portion, causing injury to the feather. In his defence Mr Lodman claimed his wife was “quite stupid with gin”. The bench considered that violence had been used to the hat and ordered the defendant to pay one pound tens as restitution.
The Guilty Bar totally agrees with this judgement and own up to being Guilty of showing a courteous and respectful manner towards patrons and their attire.
Today we at the Guilty Bar have many charges pending against us. Accused of providing premium beers and sumptuous food aided and abetted by a comfy and relaxed ambience. We intend to vigorously defend these charges by pleading Guilty. We place our faith in you the Judge and the Jury for a fair trial and are of the optimistic belief that you too will find us, without any reasonable doubt...GUILTY.
